Streptococcal Peri-anal Disease

This is caused by strep pyogenes. There is bright well defined redness in the peri-anal area and this extends away from the anus.

It is usually seen in children under the age of four. There is peri-anal itching and discomfort. Bowel movements can be quite painful. The children usually feel well. There may be an associated history of a sore throat.

Treatment:

Oral antibiotics are usually required.
