Atypical fibroxanthoma

Atypical fibroxanthoma is a benign tumor usually found on the sun damaged skin of an elderly face.

Presenting as a red nodule 1 to 3 cm in diameter, the lesion has some histologic features suggestive of malignancy, and the pathology should be reviewed by an experienced dermatopathologist.

Treatment:

  • In spite of its benign nature, complete surgical excision is the usually recommended treatment.
