Black heel
Synonym:
Talons noirs
Black heel is subcutaneous hemorrhage on the heel caused by trauma. It is not uncommon in runners.
The patients are generally concerned that a melanoma may be present. The sudden onset of a large area of black-purple pigment, and the purple nature of that pigment, separates it from melanoma.
Treatment:
- Paring the lesion with a scalpel blade generally removes the hyperpigmentation.
