Erythema neonatorum

Erythema toxicum neonatorum
Toxic erythema

Erythema neonatorum consists of a blotchy macular erythema, occasionally with pustule formation, over the trunk, face and proximal limbs.
It is exceedingly common.
The etiology is unknown.
Occasionally urticaria or small pustules can be seen in these erythematous patches. Present in newborns, the eruption typically clears within 3 to 4 days.
Microscopic examination of pustular contents demonstrates increase in eosinophils.

Treatment:

  • No treatment is required.
