Flexural psoriasis

Synonym:

Inverse psoriasis

Flexural psoriasis is psoriasis involving the folds of the skin.
Most typically, psoriasis is worse on the extensor surfaces, not the folds. Inverse psoriasis also differs from typical psoriasis in that the thick micaceous scale typical of psoriasis is usually not present. Instead, red raised plaques are present.
The color can be salmon pink to crimson.
There can be an associated maceration.

Treatment:

  • Inverse psoriasis responds quite well to medium potency topical steroids.
  • Irritating compounds such as anthralin should be avoided.
  • Tinea cruris and erythrasma should be ruled out.
