Hyperthyroidism
Synonym:
Thyrotoxicosis
Grave's disease
The stigmata of thyroid excess include a soft velvety skin, palmar erythema, facial flushing, evidence of increased nail growth, diffuse thinning of scalp hair, increased skin temperature, epidermal thickening and pretibial myxedema.
The lesions of pretibial myxedema consist of diffuse or sharply circumscribed, yellow-brown to pink nodules, with prominent follicular dimples (peau d'orange).
Hypertrichosis may be present.
Treatment:
- Treatment of the hyperthyroidism results in gradual resolution.
