Lentigo

A lentigo is a flat brown lesion. The term lentigo usually does not refer to large, congenital lesions such as café-au-lait macules, but is most commonly used to refer to acquired flat brown lesions.

Actinic lentigo, also known as ephelis or freckle, is secondary to sun damage and often has a feathered or dendritic border.

The so-called PUVA lentigo is a gray/black actinic lentigo and suggests profound actinic damage.

Lentigo simplex is an acquired flat brown lesion more commonly seen on the dorsum of the hands and face of the elderly.
These lesions remain benign.

Lentigo maligna can resemble lentigo simplex, but tends to show increasing variation in color and edge.
