Melasma
Synonym:

Mask of pregnancy
Melasma is hyperpigmentation of the central face.
Predominant over the malar skin, it most often occurs in women, but can occur in males.
Melasma is secondary to exposure to ultraviolet A, in a predisposed individual.
Estrogen, natural or exogenous, appears to be a precipitating factor.
Treatment:
- Tretinoin, vitamin C in combination with hydroquinone
- Topical steroids
- Kojic acid as well as azelaic acid may help some individuals
- Glycolic acid peels
