Sebaceous nevus
Synonym:
Nevus sebaceous of Jadassohn
Sebaceous nevi are well demarcated raised lesions, most typically on the head and neck, with a yellowish papular appearance indicative of the sebaceous gland epidermal hamartoma that it is.
Lesions can be apparent in neonates, only to regress in the absence of maternal hormones, with an enlargement again at puberty.
Malignant transformation can occur in these hamartomas; the most common malignancy is basal cell carcinoma.
Treatment:
- Surgical excision, when possible, is the treatment of choice in view of the malignant potential of these lesions
