Trichomycosis axillaris

Synonym:

Trichomycosis nodosa

Trichomycosis axillaris is an often malodorous condition of the axillary hairs, where concretions of anaerobic Corynebacterium surround each hair.
Depending upon the species, the hairs may show colors of yellow, red, brown or black.
Sweat, and therefore clothing, can be the same color.

Treatment:

  • Shaving the hairs, with or without the application of an antibiotic ointment such as erythromycin ointment, is usually effective.
  • The use of an aluminum chloride antiperspirant is also effective treatment.
