Plane xanthoma

Plane xanthomas are yellowish macules, patches, and occasionally patches.
Generalized plane xanthomas can be caused by a myelodysplasia, such as multiple myeloma or macroglobulinemia.
Palmar plane xanthomas are characteristic of type III hyperlipoproteinemia with elevated cholesterol and triglycerides.
Plane xanthomas can also be caused by secondary hyperlipidemias, such as that caused by chronic biliary obstruction.

Treatment:

  • Control of the underlying hyperlipidemia is required.
