Thermage - A Skin Tightening Procedure

What is thermage?

Thermage is a non-invasive non-surgical treatment for skin tightening. An applicator is applied to the skin and a type of energy called radio frequency is delivered to the layers of collagen underneath the skin.

When that collagen is heated up, it stimulates new collagen formation over a period of three to six months and the result, in the properly selected patient, is that the skin becomes smoother and tighter.

What is it used for?

Thermage can be used to address concerns with loose skin of the face, around the eyes, and even on the body. It's important to select the patient properly. Thermage is best for patients who have just very early skin laxity--just a little bit of extra skin.

Expectations from this procedure

When a patient has a treatment with Thermage, and they are properly selected patients-showing just early skin laxity-they can expect over a period of three to six months to see a subtle and gradual tightening of the skin in the area that was treated. For most patients that tightening would be in the range of mild to moderate.

The very occasional patient has nice very dramatic results and also an occasional patient has very minimal or difficult to perceive results. It'd be important to discuss those risks with your physician before going ahead with treatment.

Recovery Time

Thermage is a treatment that we consider to be no downtime, so there's very little change in behaviour that's required to recover from the treatment. Some patients may have a little bit of swelling, but again, the treatment could be done on a workday, and patients can head back to work after the treatment is done.

The cost of procedure

The cost of Thermage would vary significantly depending on what areas is being treated, and who is doing the treatment for you. It could range anywhere from a few hundred dollars to several thousand dollars.
