Perniosis

Chilblains

Pernioses are inflammatory lesions, typically occurring along the lateral aspect of the feet, which are secondary to chronic exposure to cold in susceptible individuals.
These erythematous raised nodules can be pruritic.
Chilblains are most common in children.

Treatment:

• Calcium channel blockers such as nifedipine at a dose of 20-60mg. daily or diltiazem 60-120mg. t.i.d.
• Topical steroids are helpful in some individuals.
• Anecdotal reports have shown that topical minoxidil 5% as well as nicotinate cream 2% are of value.
