Photo contact dermatitis
Photoallergic and phototoxic contact dermatitis is an inflammatory eruption secondary to a photoactive substance, plus light. The substance does not cause an eruption in the absence of light.
Typical phytotoxins are plant saps containing psoralens such as that found in celery.
Treatment:
- Wash the substance off of the skin.
- Application of medium strength topical glucocorticoids is very helpful to control symptoms.
